SESSTIM

SESSTIM, UMR1252 : The Joint Research Unit (UMR) “Economic and Social Sciences of Health & Medical Information Processing” (SESSTIM; sesstim.univ-amu.fr) is certified by INSERM, IRD and Aix–Marseille University. SESSTIM currently comprises three interdisciplinary teams in economics and social sciences, social epidemiology, biostatistics and medical informatics.

Most SESSTIM projects focus on the development of research in human and social sciences and in public health, and is characterized by a closeness with biology and clinical fields. We focus on identifying research issues related to biomedical innovations, with the aim of developing innovations in our study disciplines which provide practical answers. A group of SESSTIM researchers (named QuanTIM) is focused on the development and implementation of quantitative and computer-based models and methods to account for the complexity, dematerialization and the growing body of health data. More specifically, it focuses on:

  1. biostatistics and technological needs to analyse such data;
  2. the processing of health data, their transmission, their re-use for research purposes and practical operational activities (care, epidemiological surveillance, and support in decision-making);
  3. the interaction between quantitative methods and medical information technologies. These objectives are part of the research studies performed which were closely linked to research in social and human sciences (SHS) and epidemiology, as well as clinical and public health research. The QuanTIM group is associated with social science researchers within the ApiAppS project.
